A Crab Dressed like a Dementor, Pack Lunches, and Pie
[Private to Ned.]
I need help.
[Spam for Kelsier]
[He gave Kelsier time to hide, because - well, he's not a complete hypocrite. But he's knocking on Kel's door now, and he's just as willing to pick the lock as he was on the other barge.]
[Private to Alpha]
I can't see anything on the communicator screens, so I don't know what your room looks like. But if you have not yet acquired a replacement for your recessed pit, I could make a fabric hammock.
They're...easier to move around than solid furniture, if you change your mind about what you want where.
[Spam for Nathan, backdated to several days after the mirror even but before White Flag - 5th or 6th?]
[He knocks only once. He has cherry-raspberry pie.]
[Open Spam all over the barge, from a few days after the mirror event through White Flag, particularly relevant to Jean, Cassel, Alex, Zane, and Ryan, because you guys now have a pointy extra shadow.]
[Several months of memories of being used as a brutal nightmare of a weapon have made Marsh even more skittish, if possible, than he was when he first board the barge. He skulks and lurks and generally keeps to the corners of the regrettably well-lit corridors. He ducks into empty cabins when people pass in the halls, and he collects food at odd times. It is, however, less absent than his usual hermitage, because he's actively stalking a few people at a distance whenever they emerge from hiding.]
[OOC: feel free to run into him while he's watching out for someone else, or if you want to say your character was chopped to pieces once or a dozen times by mind controlled!Marsh in the mirror event, he might feel obligated to quasi-discretely check on them too. Just let me know!]
[Open Spam, CES]
[It's pitch dark, except for the small area illuminated by the light spilling in through the open door; Marsh doesn't need light. The CES gave him the rebellion's cave systems today, and although there are torches stashed here in there in the tunnels, Marsh doesn't need them. The rock is solid, cool but not cold, and he's tucked just around a bend, holding still. Letting himself be still. He isn't sure himself if it's comforting or just stalling, but at least it is familiar.]

[ Going headlong towards death. He can't just pretend he doesn't care, because he can bounce back. Death is the most frightening thing there is. ]

[He doesn't understand. At all. There's nothing that scares him more than losing his mind. He resists all efforts to remove his because - well, the guilt, yes, always that. But also because part of him thinks he'd lose a different part of himself without them than he loses to them, and maybe one he can't spare.
But Zane was good, without it. Whole. Marsh does not understand what he's afraid of. But it's enough for him, that Zane is.]
Okay.

[ An understatement.
What Vin did to him is the most frightening thing that has ever happened to him. He never talks about it. He almost never thinks about it. Bleeding out, hearing that voice. It was all a joke, to Ruin. ]
I heard him at the end. He said I wasn't insane. That I had never been insane.

We wouldn't let you die. Not like that.
[Not for It. Meanwhile, the we is, automatically and effortlessly, Marsh and Kelsier and Iris and Babs, and Morgana and the rest of the infirmary staff for that matter. He isn't alone against a god, anymore. Neither of them are.]

But some things - aren't in your control.

I have underestimated Kelsier one too many times already. I wouldn't want to guess what all of your friends together can't do.

My brother died for the power this holds. What if I don't want to lose that?
[ It's as he says this that he realizes he's holding on to it. He's not sure why; the reasons feel tangled and complex inside him. The spike hurts. He should want it out. But he - maybe he does deserve the pain, or maybe it does give him some insight, some connection, some weakness.
He likes how it feels when someone he loves soothes the pain. He can't have that feeling if there's no pain in the first place. ]

No. He was killed so something evil could use you.

None of it happened for us, Zane. It happened to us.

[Growled, low in his throat, with an emotion that is not quite anger, something deeper and bleaker and more fundamental. He takes a breath - aches, each lung pierced, as always - turns his face to the side.]
If it's too important to let go...
[He doesn't finish the sentence, hopes he doesn't have to. But that he understands.]
Just. Don't let it trick you into thinking it's about respect for the dead, or that the power makes it better, or worth it, or good. It doesn't need to be here to lie to you.
