[He leaves a package of snacks his younger self took and hid on her doorstep: a lot of apples and little pastries. Things without their own packaging, that he recognized as food. There's a handwritten note on old-fashioned, handmade brown paper, in neat, cramped handwriting.]

And if you didn't know where it came from, you couldn't know if it was going to go.
