But he's quiet, for a while, because while he knows he won't take the present back, Simon deserves Marsh's full consideration. His mouth pinches a bit, solemn.]

In my world, my life is - was - illegal. My mother was tortured and executed for bearing us, and my brother and I spent decades on the fringes and in hiding. If the joke were about killing skaa, or half-breeds -

I would not allow it my presence. But I would not have the right to take it from him.

He murdered an undead person less than two weeks ago and now he puts a joke about killing my people on the network -- the public network -- and you don't see that as a threat? You condone it by letting him wear it in the establishment that you represent?

[Marsh can't see Simon's face, but he's no longer bothering to hide the pure disgust, nearly loathing, in his voice. No, he's no longer only angry at Dean.]

And your excuse for allowing it is that someone like me wouldn't usually see it. That makes it okay.

Inmates are frequently killers, and frequently have cruel beliefs. That is not okay.

If you had reason to be there, I would turn him out instead rather than subject you to it if he were unwilling to lay it aside. But I don't think taking it would make him feel any differently, except perhaps more resentful.

If you think he should be punished for accepting what the admiral provided, that should also be brought up with his own warden.

I don't care how he feels. I care that he thinks, right now, that he can get away with putting that filth out on the air because no one gives enough of a damn about us to tell him no.

[And Dean isn't the only one who's resentful here.]

I care that you're making excuses to let one of your employees keep his toy instead of doing what should be done and protecting the other people on this ship. And even if that were legitimate and not just another way of letting more anti-undead sentiment slip by, not all of us stay out of the cafeteria. The young woman whose neck he snapped has to go there. My friends have to go there. I'm glad to see how welcome they are.
