super grown up mature responsible spikewarden
I smiled, and you missed it.
[He is fairly confident this taunt will summon Kelsier from any corner of the multiverse. And there are other friends he wouldn't mind hearing from either.]

Wait, wait, wait. You smiled?

You must tell me what happened!

[He's still really pleased. Have a sorta smile.]
no subject
Oh, and I see that smile. Don't hide it.
no subject
So I'll be coming home soon. Maybe.

You're the one in charge of the kitchens, if I'm not mistaken. Aren't you?
no subject
I am.
no subject
And this is how you let your staff present themselves?

[And then it hits him. He cuts off abruptly, voice going a little stiff with embarrassment.]
I thought you'd still be able to see.

[gravelly and vaguely apologetic]

"Keep calm and kill zombies." One of your employees is wearing an apron with that written on it.
no subject
I asked the admiral to provide aprons they would like for Christmas. I am sorry for my part in disturbing you.
no subject
[Oh, he's happy to name names. More than happy to. At this point, he'll also be happy to punch Dean in the stomach, right over the fake bloody handprints.]
no subject
I'm not going to take it away. If he has actually threatened anyone since the last incident, you should speak to his warden.

But he's quiet, for a while, because while he knows he won't take the present back, Simon deserves Marsh's full consideration. His mouth pinches a bit, solemn.]
In my world, my life is - was - illegal. My mother was tortured and executed for bearing us, and my brother and I spent decades on the fringes and in hiding. If the joke were about killing skaa, or half-breeds -
I would not allow it my presence. But I would not have the right to take it from him.
And you do not frequent the kitchen.

[Marsh can't see Simon's face, but he's no longer bothering to hide the pure disgust, nearly loathing, in his voice. No, he's no longer only angry at Dean.]
And your excuse for allowing it is that someone like me wouldn't usually see it. That makes it okay.
no subject
If you had reason to be there, I would turn him out instead rather than subject you to it if he were unwilling to lay it aside. But I don't think taking it would make him feel any differently, except perhaps more resentful.
If you think he should be punished for accepting what the admiral provided, that should also be brought up with his own warden.
no subject
[And Dean isn't the only one who's resentful here.]
I care that you're making excuses to let one of your employees keep his toy instead of doing what should be done and protecting the other people on this ship. And even if that were legitimate and not just another way of letting more anti-undead sentiment slip by, not all of us stay out of the cafeteria. The young woman whose neck he snapped has to go there. My friends have to go there. I'm glad to see how welcome they are.
[He's not sticking around to argue about this any further -- he hangs up. If Marsh won't take the vile thing away, he's more than happy to attend to this himself.]
